Oxygen Monitoring & Dosing Unit

To measure dissolved oxygen and control the oxygen supply to an oxygen reactor, as well as to the emergency diffuser system.

  • Task: To measure dissolved oxygen and control the oxygen supply to an oxygen reactor, as well as to the emergency diffuser system.
  • Description: Dissolved oxygen (DO) is measured in the system with an oxyguard probe, connected to an Atlantic control unit. Pure oxygen from pressure cylinders or from a liquid oxygen source is directed to an oxygen reactor via 1 or 2 flow meters, or to an emergency diffuser system depending on the sensor reading. In case of power failure or extreme low DO readings an alarm output relay is switched on and an audible alarm is triggered.
  • Benefits: Oxygen is delivered on the demand, avoiding oxygen spillage. If DO levels fall below a set level an audible alarm is triggered and an emergency supply to for example a diffuser system is automatically opened.

In intensive fish farming pure oxygen is added to the water by means of an oxygen reactor, or in case of emergency, bubbled directly into the water via a diffuser system. The source of oxygen in this case is a liquid oxygen storage tank or pressurized gas cylinders, containing oxygen with over 99% purity.

The oxygen monitoring/control unit consists of a monitoring/control unit that measures oxygen and switches relays depending on the DO reading and a dosing unit that directs the oxygen from the oxygen source to the oxygen reactor or to an emergency diffuser system.

The DO is measured with an oxygen probe, connected to an Oxyguard Atlantic control unit. Based on the DO measurements a set of relays is switched on or off. The relays open or close 2 solenoid valves on the oxygen dosing panel, as well as an alarm output relay.

The dosing unit receives oxygen from the oxygen source and regulates the pressure to 4-5 bar. To avoid excessive pressure a pressure release valve is installed. Depending on the DO the dosing unit directs oxygen either to the oxygen reactor or to an emergency diffuser system.

The oxygen reactor is supplied with oxygen via 2 adjustable flow meters; the base flow and the peak flow. The base flow is manually adjusted to supply the reactor with roughly 2/3 of the maximum oxygen demand and the peak flow provides the remainder of the oxygen, controlled by the DO measurement.

A bypass to emergency oxygenation is automatically opened when DO drops too low. At the same time an audible alarm is started and an alarm output relay is switched.
