In Armenia ACE designed, delivered and constructed a flow through system for the production of Sturgeon and Trout. The customer already owns several fish farms and wants to gain experience with intensification of flow through systems.

The traditional culture method for Sturgeon and Trout utilizes springs that provide pristine water at a rate of 300 m3/hr per spring. The oxygen content of this water is around 8.5 ppm, providing the fish with roughly 600 gram oxygen per hour.

Under ideal conditions this means that 5000 kg Trout can be produced per year, per spring. By aerating the new ponds with paddlewheel aerators extra oxygen is provided and carbondioxide is stripped. Ammonia accumulation is then the limiting factor that determines how much fish can be produced per spring. In this case it means that the production per spring can now be increased 8-fold, to 40 tons per year.

Instead of the traditional dug-out ponds or concrete raceways ACE installed round corrugated steel tanks, each with 100 m3 water volume. The circular motion of the water in the tanks keeps the bottom clean and forces the fish to exercise, increasing growth and health.

This type of farming system is cost effective and can be rapidly installed. If necessary the system can be dismantled and moved.
