Fish farm system performance screening “Fish screen”

Description:

  • In the period of 1-2 days a fish farm can be “X-rayed” to determine the well-being and performance of the fish stock.
  • Information is collected about the fish stock, feeding rate, densities and general culture conditions.
  • The fish is visually inspected in the tanks with respect to behavior and general appearance.
  • Fish is analyzed macroscopically and microscopically to verify the general health status. Analysis include weighing and measuring fish to determine the condition factor inspection of skin scrapes, gills, intestines and blood for parasites, bacteria and anomalies; inspection of the organs to verify color, shape and size and analysis of the blood to verify blood cell counts and pH.
  • This information is then processed to verify the well-being and performance of the fish stock. Advise is given for practical steps to improve the health and well-being of the fish, as well as options to increase production and lower production cost.

Benefits

  • In most recirculation systems there is room for improving the health status and production performance of the fish. A broad spectrum “Fish screen” provides a good overview of the status of the fish stock. By removing some bottlenecks it is always possible to increase production and lower production cost.
